Privacy Policy

GoTasks Next (“the app”) is an independent iPhone client for Google Tasks. This policy explains what information the app accesses, how it is used, and the choices you have. The app is operated by an individual developer and has no backend servers of its own.
Information the app accesses
- Your Google Tasks data. With your permission (via Google sign-in), the app reads and manages your task lists and tasks using the Google Tasks API. This is required to display your tasks and to let you create, edit, complete, reorder, and delete them.
- Your basic Google profile. Your email address is used only to show which account is signed in.
How the app uses information
Information is used solely to provide the app’s core functionality on your device: showing your lists and tasks and syncing your changes back to your Google Tasks account. The app does not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to managing your tasks.
Where data is stored
- Your tasks live in your Google account. Changes you make sync directly to Google Tasks.
- Task cache (device-only). The app keeps a local cache of your Google Tasks on your device so it can display them quickly and work offline. This cache never leaves your device and is removed when you delete the app.
- App metadata. A small amount of app-specific metadata (list colors, alert times, repeat settings, and manual ordering — not your task contents) is stored on your device. If you have iCloud enabled, this metadata may also sync privately through Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) to your own iCloud account so your settings follow you across your devices. It is stored in your private iCloud database, encrypted by Apple, and is not accessible to the developer or shared with any third party.
- Sign-in tokens are stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device.
Data protection and security
GoTasks Next requests a sensitive Google scope (access to your Google Tasks), and it protects that data with the following safeguards:
- Encryption in transit. All communication between the app and Google’s servers uses encrypted HTTPS (TLS). Your Google Tasks data and sign-in credentials are never transmitted over an unencrypted connection.
- Encryption at rest. Any Google Tasks data cached on your device, together with the app’s local metadata, is protected by iOS’s built-in file-level Data Protection (device encryption), which is active whenever a device passcode is set.
- Secure credential storage. OAuth sign-in tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, which is hardware-backed and encrypted by the operating system. The app never sees or stores your Google password.
- No servers, no third parties. The app has no backend of its own. Your data is exchanged only between your device and Google’s official APIs; it is never sent to the developer, to analytics or tracking services, or to any other third party.
- Data minimization. The app requests only the Google Tasks scope needed for its core function, plus the basic sign-in information (name and email), and it accesses only the signed-in user’s own task data.
- Access control and revocation. Access is authorized solely through Google’s OAuth consent and can be revoked by you at any time (see “Your choices and data deletion” below); revoking access or deleting the app ends the app’s ability to read or modify your data.
- Retention. The app keeps your Google Tasks data only as a local cache for display and offline use — it maintains no separate long-term copy — and deleting the app removes all locally stored data from your device.
Sharing and transfer
The app does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. It communicates only with Google’s APIs (for your tasks) and, if you have iCloud enabled, with Apple’s iCloud (for your own app settings), directly from your device. There are no analytics, tracking, or third-party services embedded in the app.
Google API Services — Limited Use
GoTasks Next’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices and data deletion
- You can revoke the app’s access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data (cache, metadata, and sign-in tokens) from your device. Your tasks remain in your Google account. If app metadata was synced to your iCloud account, you can remove it in iOS Settings under your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage (or by turning off iCloud for the app).
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
